Landon, Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine class of 2021, was first introduced to Blue Heron Consulting (BHC) through an externship – Unbridled: Inspiring the Next Generation of Practice Owners – in the summer of 2019. That experienced completely changed his perspective of veterinary medicine and engrained in him that every veterinarian, practice owner and clinic have an individual story to tell, and when those individual aspects are unified with a specific “why,” anything can be obtained. This really resonated with him and knew he needed to be a part of it. As a veterinary student interested in practice ownership, his BHC internship involves helping assess the financial health of hospitals, developing financial projections and identifying opportunities for hospital improvement. Upon graduation, he hopes to one day be both an operational coach and a medical team coach for BHC.
Even though Landon has a focus on small animal medicine, he has a passion for veterinary medicine as a whole. He loves learning about large, small and exotic animals and anything to do with business management. Growing up in Arizona he had an insatiable interest in animals and biology and once he set foot in a veterinary clinic he knew this is what he wanted to do. He later went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in Applied Biological Sciences from Arizona State University before applying to Washington State University’s veterinary program. Currently at Washington State University he is involved in a number of different clubs that align with his interests such as orthopedic surgery, radiology and dentistry and is an active member in the Veterinary Business Management Association. He is also the President of the Class of 2021 and an Ambassador for the veterinary program. Upon graduation he will return home to Arizona and hopes to practice as a small animal general practitioner and quickly enter practice ownership. In his spare time Landon spends time with his wife, children and two cats. As well he loves cooking, playing his guitar and spending time with people.
