BHC Hiring Services conducts veterinarian, practice manager, and support staff searches for independently-owned and corporate hospitals nationwide. Our hiring team is excited to be able to assist our clients in the hiring process so that they can focus on serving their patients and clients, developing their teams, and doing what they love. The Talent Acquisition Specialist (TAS) is a member of the Hiring Services department. This role informs and implements sourcing and recruiting strategy, builds pipelines of veterinary candidates through online and in-person efforts, delivers a high-level candidate and hospital client experience, and serves as a trusted advisor and staffing expert to DVM candidates and clients. The TAS works closely with all Hiring Services team members to match candidates with client opportunities nationwide. The TAS reports to the Director of Hiring Services.
Qualities
- 1+ year(s) of VETERINARY recruiting experience with knowledge of veterinary industry recruiting best practices and strategy (REQUIRED)
- Additional experience in talent acquisition, sales, and/or marketing preferred
- Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to self-direct, work independently, and achieve set targets
- Experience sourcing veterinary professionals using job boards, social media platforms, networking platforms, and Student Ambassador programs
- Experience presenting on topics relevant to the veterinary industry (technical or EQ skills and/or career-related topics)
- Ability to position self as a trusted advisor using expertise, active listening, and problem solving skills
- Occasional domestic travel (1-2 times a month for 1-2 nights)
- Team oriented and collaborative with the ability to flex in support of the timelines and priorities
- Experience using CRM or ATS tools to manage leads/candidates (experience with Loxo, a plus)
- Advanced Microsoft 365 skills (Sharepoint, Outlook, Excel, Word etc)
- Effective judgment, confidentiality, sensitivity and creativity to changing needs and situations

Responsibilities
- Identify passive and active potential candidates to fill open positions using our applicant tracking system (Loxo), networking platforms, job boards, social media (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter), industry groups and professional associations, referrals, recruiting events, sourcing tools such as LinkedIn, Indeed, Hound, and AVMA
- Build talent pipeline for current and future job openings by developing beneficial relationships with key partners ie VBMA, career centers, and developing a network of potential future hires (eg past applicants and referred candidates)
- Conduct and host recruitment efforts at veterinary conferences, workshops, student and industry events to build candidate pipeline and increase BHC Hiring Services visibility
- Collaborate with Director of Hiring Services to create and implement cylinder sourcing and recruitment strategy
- Collaborate with marketing department to create social media advertisements for clients
- Conduct cold outreach (messaging, emailing, texting, calling) to potential candidates to present opportunities and generate interest in open positions
- Conduct outreach to new candidates in AVMA and pull all new AVMA candidates into ATS weekly
- Review resumes in resume databases to identify potential veterinarian candidates and conduct outreach to qualified parties
- Conduct search within ATS for each position, call candidates, and follow up with an email
- Utilize social media and other networking platforms to build candidate pipeline
- Build LinkedIn connections by sending tailored connection requests (10 per client state/week)
- Conduct outreach Handshake (100/6 months)
- Send tailored messages to 10 candidates per client per week within 25-75 mile radius of client hospital
- Conduct introductory phone calls and phone screenings with veterinary candidates, and present qualified candidates to Communication Specialist
- Develop veterinarian placement service by identifying and contracting potential employers
- Conduct practice profile meetings with new clients to learn about the client’s hospital, culture, and staffing needs
- Create detail-rich, engaging, and attractive job ads
- Review applications and interview applicants to place within client practices nationwide
- Serve as a trusted advisor to DVM candidates and a staffing expert to our clients nationwide
- Professionally communicate via email and telephone with veterinary candidates and clients
- Maintain the accuracy and growth of candidate databases by updating candidate details, communication history, and notes in the Applicant Tracking System
- Stay up to date on recruitment strategies and industry trends by watching Top Echelon Recruiter Webinars and reading veterinary industry articles and reports.
- Routinely update Hiring Services team on candidate flow, sourcing efforts, roadblocks to recruitment and regional competition (job openings, advertised comp and incentives, etc); accurately track key recruiting and retention metrics
- Use Monday.com for project management and keep boards up-to-date
- Participate in the design, development, and implementation of recruiting-related activities
- Participate in departmental strategic planning
- Connect candidates with hospital leadership in a timely and professional manner
- Check for State Veterinary License #/ Malpractice Suits
- Search public social media sites (Facebook & LinkedIn) to assess candidate’s professionalism
- Conduct reference calls and background checks
- Additional administrative duties as assigned
- Oversee participation in and promotion of Hiring Services at conferences and speakingengagements
- Check the conferences and speaking engagement Monday.com boards weekly to identify upcoming opportunities to speak, attend, or promote Hiring Services
- Coordinate with attendees to determine what materials to send, quantity of materials to send, and when and where to send materials
- Ensure attendees are prepared to represent Hiring Services at events
- Connect with veterinary school career centers
Metrics for Success
- Ensure all new resumes on AVMA each week are uploaded to Loxo
- Contact all new AVMA candidates by phone, email, or both each week
- Total weekly outreach to DVMs: Outreach to 15 candidates per week per client
- Send at least 50 LinkedIn messages each month
- Send at least 50 Hound messages each month
- Send 100 Handshake message per 6 months
- Response rates on emails, phone calls, voicemails, texts, Hound/Handshake/LinkedIn messages: Goal 20% response rate on at least one platform
- Number of DVM interviews conducted monthly: 8 or more
- Number of client contracts filled each month: 1
- Number of cold placements made each month: 1
- Ensure Hiring Services representation at a minimum of 20 events (conferences, career fairs, speaking engagements) annually
- Present to 2 VBMA clubs each semester
- Prepare and present below metrics at Monday HIR SERV team meetings
Compensation
- $60,000-$75,000 base salary; commensurate with experience
